Our teaching team
Kidsfirst Kindergartens Hornby is a well-resourced kindergarten with a spacious, welcoming, and attractive and child-centred environment for children aged 2 – 5 years. Our indoor space provides lots of opportunities to try new things, inspire curiosity and develop creativity through play. We work to provide an atmosphere full of fun in an environment that gives our children independence and sense of belonging. We have a strong language and literacy programme we encourage our tamariki to develop a love of books and storytelling.
Our outside area has lots of room for children to explore and to develop their physical skills, with a variety of moveable equipment that allows children to set their own challenges. Green grass, barked areas, gardens, and equipment specially designed to support children’s physical growth and development are features. We have large gardens where we teach our children to look after our environment by being involved in planting, caring for, harvesting and sharing kai. Tamariki can choose from and learn to use a range of real resources such as saws, hammers, nails, gardening equipment, spades and shovels, learning about managing risk and making safe choices.
We are very proud of the welcoming, supportive environment that we offer and that you, our whānau, will become a part of. We start each day with a time where all tamariki and their whānau are welcomed, and any visitors and events for the day are shared. Lots of our whānau stay to enjoy this special start to the day, and help to enrich our programme by sharing their skills, experiences, languages and cultures with us. You're always welcome here!
Our kindergarten has developed strong links within our local community – you’ll often see us out and about exploring our community and helping the children to make sense of their place in it. We are visited regularly by a HIPPY co-ordinator, supporting early literacy in homes, the CCC library, and Heartland Community Services.
We are located close to South Hornby Primary school and we make regular visits to South Hornby School with our four-year-old tamariki, helping to support the transition to school for you and your child, as he/she moves on from kindergarten.
We would recommend that you enrol initially for at least two full days – building up to five days at your child's pace. This gives our teachers time to get to know your child and gives some consistency around supporting their learning.
Nau mai, tauti mai - come in any time, we’ll show you around and make you welcome!
From time to time we have special offers, to enable more children to come to our not-for-profit, community kindergarten. But hurry, spaces are limited and these offers only apply for a limited time. Conditions apply.
