Maintaining the uniqueness of our identity.

Mālō e lelei, Tēnā koutou kātoa, Talofa lava, Bula vinaka, Fakalofa lahi atu, Mālō ni mauri, and warm Pasifika greetings to you all!

Here at Kidsfirst Kindergartens Niu , we’re all about family, fun, friendship, and the very best in teaching and learning for your child.  We provide a programme for children aged 0 – 5 years. With great child: teacher ratios and a small overall group size, infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers can receive the individual attention they need. Our teachers understand the special ways of our youngest children and respect the interests and needs of each child and their family.

At Kidsfirst Niu we place a strong emphasis on maintaining lea faka- Tonga Tongan language, and anga faka-Tonga Tongan culture as part of our unique identity. But you don’t have to be Tongan to enrol! We value the relationships we build with our kainga/family, and look forward to making new connections, embracing our community by celebrating and honouring all Pacific nations and nurturing the diverse cultures within our centre.

The Tongan way of being is founded on the Christian faith and this is woven into our programme through lotu prayer, and hiva singing.  Ofa love and grace is the foundation of everything that we strive to achieve, and our values of loto-to humility, faka’apa’apa respect, mamahi’i me’a loyalty and tauhi-vaha’a maintaining good relationships are seen in the interactions between our teachers, parents, kāinga, family and children every day.

Pukepuke ‘a fufula: This saying encourages our youngest learners and their families to maintain traditional Tongan values and the Tongan language – even when it gets hard. At Kidsfirst Niu we are here to support you and your family, and we understand that it is through our relationships that we all learn and grow.

The teaching team believe in using a talanoa approach when building relationships with kainga, family and the community. We all like to talk, discuss, and laugh, and we value opportunities to share information between home and here at Niu which supports and extends each child’s learning. We are fortunate to have a teaching team who are fluent in multiple languages to support all children in their language development – also as speakers of multiple language.

You're always welcome here! Our families, past and present, are an important part of our kindergarten’s life. We value this greatly and we encourage kainga/family to visit and take part in their child’s day, sharing your skills and knowledge and helping to enrich our programme.

Strong links with our local primary schools help to support the transition to school for you and your child, as he/she moves on from our centre.

We would recommend that you enrol initially for at least two full days – building up to five days at your child's pace.  This gives our teachers time to get to know your child and gives consistency around supporting their learning.

Come in any time – we’ll show you around and make you welcome!

Ko te reo te tuakiri , Ko te reo tōku ahurei , Ko te reo te ora.
Language is my identity.  Language is my uniqueness.  Language is life.

From time to time we have special offers, to enable more children to come to our not-for-profit, community kindergarten. But hurry, spaces are limited and these offers only apply for a limited time. Conditions apply.
