Riccarton

Our teaching team
Our large kindergarten building is warm and inviting, set up to spark and grow children’s interest with areas for reading, relaxing, creating , exploring, constructing, dancing, baking, and playing with friends. Children aged 2 – 5 years can access a range of resources that are carefully and intentionally presented to evoke thinking and exploration. We are richly resourced and encourage children to explore elements of the natural world through the inclusion of sand, shells, and wood incorporated into the play environment. We have a large covered veranda area that allows children to be outside in all weathers.
Our beautiful, big backyard has large, established trees, a gigantic sandpit with enough room for everyone, offering tamariki freedom to explore and engage with the natural world outside in all weather, with grass and barked areas, gardens and equipment specially designed to support children’s physical growth and development.
The rich cultural diversity of the children at Kidsfirst Kindergartens Riccarton makes us special, and we celebrate each individual child and their identity. We have a wealth of teaching experience and talents to share with the tamariki and are responsive to the interests, strengths and capabilities of all children aged 2 – 5 years. We get to know our children and their whānau well, fostering respectful relationships to help and support our tamariki succeed with their learning. Here, children are valued, celebrated and affirmed for who they are and what they bring to their learning.
You're always welcome here - community and connectedness are at the heart of what we do. Our families are as involved in our daily life as much as they wish to be - supporting us with trips out and about into the community, helping us to keep kindergarten clean and tidy at the end of each term and enriching our programme by coming in and sharing skills, reading a story in a home language for example, or baking with children. Families have a strong sense of belonging here, and many friendships are formed between families at kindy.
You’ll see us out and about in our community, supporting our tamariki to strengthen the connection they have in the local community and exploring in their role as caretakers (kaitiaki) of our environment. We enjoy getting out and about and share a close relationship with Enliven and Totara House (a centre for older adults), where small groups of children visit, and songs and games are shared. Strong links with our local primary schools help to support the transition to school for you and your child, as he/she moves on from kindergarten.
We would recommend that you enrol initially for at least two full days –building up to five days at your child's pace. This gives us, the teachers time to get to know your child and provides consistency around supporting their learning.
Nau mai, tauti mai - come in any time, we are very proud of our unique learning environment and would love to show you around. Kidsfirst Kindergartens Riccarton is a wonderful place to learn!
From time to time we have special offers, to enable more children to come to our not-for-profit, community kindergarten. But hurry, spaces are limited and these offers only apply for a limited time. Conditions apply.
