Wigram
Monday to Friday.
Our teaching team
Our inside learning environment has been completely refurbished, providing an open, calm and inviting space for children to learn alongside their peers in play areas that allow the them to learn both independently and with others as they choose. Kaiako encourage children to explore, and give them a sense of control whilst supporting children to engage in focused, self-directed play.
Our beautiful, big backyard provides a variety of experiences that challenge and stimulate learning. Under the shade of a large willow tree children have opportunities for exploration through sand and water play, imaginative play and physical challenges. The outdoor environment provides an abundance of sensory stimulation with birds to hear, plants and insects to see, flowers to smell, and many textures to touch. By giving children frequent opportunities to play outdoors in nature’s playground, teachers prepare children to recognise, appreciate, and learn about what lives in our natural world.
Tamariki at Wigram have opportunities to experience new challenges, identify and pursue their own learning goals and participate in long term projects. There is a strong sense of self-determination - children are able to make choices in our environment. Our qualified and experienced teaching team support by recognising and cultivating curiosity and imagination, and supporting opportunities in the curriculum for inquiry, experimentation and investigation.
You're always welcome here - community and connectedness are at the heart of what we do, building and maintaining warm and trusting relationships with whānau to support children’s learning and families’ aspirations. We actively seek parent / whānau / aiga participation through community events, celebrating cultural festivities, and we work hard to develop an understanding of each child’s family and culture and enjoy the richness this brings to our programme.
You’ll see and hear about your child’s learning in many ways—display boards, emails, newsletters, the outside notice board and through discussions as sharing information makes learning more visible. Educa is our online portal connecting you to your child’s learning. Our teachers will upload your child’s learning stories - straight to your phone or tablet. You and your family can provide comments and inspiration to build on the learning for your child.
You will see us out and about visiting in Wigram and beyond, supporting our tamariki to strengthen the connection and relationships they have within their local community and to further explore this setting in their role as caretakers (kaitiaki) of our environment. Strong links with our local primary schools help to support the transition to school for you and your child, as he/she moves on from kindergarten.
We would recommend that you enrol initially for at least two full days –building up to five days at your child's pace. This gives us, the teachers, time to get to know your child and provides consistency around supporting their learning.
Nau mai, tauti mai - come in any time, we are very proud of our unique learning environment and would love to show you around. Kidsfirst Kindergartens Wigram is a wonderful place to learn!
From time to time we have special offers, to enable more children to come to our not-for-profit, community kindergarten. But hurry, spaces are limited and these offers only apply for a limited time. Conditions apply.
